February 10, 2022February 26, 2022

Goodness, it’s been a few weeks since I have posted. After a busy Christmas season, followed by some unexplained, and currently still unexplained, sickness, I am back and back to answer some questions I have been receiving over on my…

I’m a mom of three who’s documenting all the wins and the occasional fails as I renovate my builder-grade house one room at a time. I want our house feel to feel like a home and my goal is to help you change your mindset from “I can’t” into “I CAN!” by sharing the process so that you can do the same!

My friend asked me to design a space for her kids to hangout, read, and play in and I just couldn’t say no! She chose this incredible wallpaper by @rebelwalls called Swedish Forest Mini and even challenged me to put it on the ceiling! It was easy to work with and install and I am excited we went bold for this space! Next up is paint a few more surprises so be sure to hangout to see it finished!

I wasn’t doing any of this a few years ago….so I wasn’t doing any of this a few years ago….so where did I start?

My true passion for building and wood working began 20 year ago in grade 9 but I decided to pursue a different path because I didn’t feel ā€œwoodworkingā€ was a female thing to do.

Fast forward to 2020 - I shut down my photography business a few years earlier and had started a family. The world became isolated and I was desperate to find ways to keep my hands and mind active. I decided to take my husband’s ā€œhoney-do-listā€ off this shoulders as he was an essential worker and teach myself how to make our house a home.

After a few short pointers of how to use a drill and mitre saw, I decided my very first project would be a coat hanger for our entrance. It was a simple 1x8 cedar board with 5 hooks. Although small, it gave me confidence to jump into larger projects and teach myself more advanced tools like a table saw and router.

So other than my husband, how did I learn to use tools, build entire rooms, custom cabinets, and even a custom deck? Trial and error and a lot of creative vision and figuring out how to make what I wanted. I learn by doing - not watching. I observe things constantly around me and start to break down how it’s made so I can attempt it.

3 years later, here I am - building a community of like-minded individuals and showing them that they can do what their heart and passion calls them to do. Here I am empowering others to create Homes with Heart. And if you’re new here, I can’t wait for you to join me while we start a whole new adventure building an acreage from scratch!

The space that started it all - it was my first full room renovation by myself and really showed what I was capable of.

Laundry became *bearable* in a space that was now functional and looked the part!

Were you hear when I did this space in the fall of 2020? What room do you want to see next in this series as I say goodbye to the Home that started it all? šŸ’•šŸ’•
